There’s a short sentence that carries a lifetime of wisdom:
“Turn to Allah before you return to Allah.”
This isn’t just a spiritual quote—it’s a wake-up call. A reminder that our lives, no matter how long or successful, will one day end. And when they do, all that will matter is whether we turned our hearts toward our Creator in time.
We live in an age where everything is urgent—deadlines, goals, ambitions. But we rarely pause to ask: What am I doing to prepare for the journey that truly matters?
How Do We Begin This Journey of Returning to Allah?
- Start with Tawbah (Repentance): Allah’s door is never closed. The beauty of Islam is that no matter what you’ve done, if you sincerely turn back, Allah will forgive. “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah…” (Surah Az-Zumar 39:53)
- Deepen Your Worship: Begin guarding your salah. Don’t just pray—be present in your prayer. Turn your salah from a task into a conversation with the Divine.
- Prioritize the Hereafter: Shift your mindset. Begin your day with the akhirah in mind. Make decisions that feed your soul, not just your bank account.
- Engage in Service: Serving others is a powerful way to draw closer to Allah. Whether it’s helping the poor, volunteering at the masjid, or supporting dawah initiatives, every act counts.
- Connect with Islamic Guidance: Seek knowledge. Attend halaqahs. Listen to scholars who balance the deen with reality—like Br. Omar Malik, whose approach to spirituality is both practical and heartfelt.
Remember, no one knows their time. But everyone knows they have today. Let us use this day, this moment, to turn back to the One who gave us everything.
Because one day, the soul will return to its Lord. And on that day, only one thing will matter: Did we live for Him, or did we live for this world?compassionate aspects of this holy month, fostering a deeper connection to their faith and community.
